Being reasonable but not allowing myself to be ignored or bullied.

We returned home from the Democratic Convention on February 25, 2018 from San Diego. It had been quite cold by Southern California standards. We had turned off the heat while we were away. We turned on the heat as soon as we came home. It turned on and the place heated up overall. Our rather large, post industrial unit has a seemingly powerful heating and air conditioning system, however they are not evenly dispersed so I can be at my couch and literally hot with the heat pouring down at me and chilly at my desk across the room. But, we were quickly able to get the place to what we knew as normal.

Monday morning, however, it was cold. I turned up the thermostat and it was not turning on. I changed batteries on thermostat; it didn't do anything. I went down to the office and told them off my problem. The lady at the desk, who is always so friendly first commented about whether my last request from weeks ago had been resolved. I told her it was (and had responded in email it was handled). She told me she was weeks behind in work orders. That is comforting, albeit while I can say repairs here have been instant, they have been relatively reasonably completed. She said that they would look into it. She said she would send up a space heater. The day passed and late in the day I received an email that the problem was not our unit but a broiler and the part would be in on Friday. No heat until Friday? No accommodation? This is OK?

Thankfully, my Mother in-law gave us an Amish fireplace. I never would have bought one, but thought it would be fun to have one. They do produce heat and she had one she gave us when they moved years back. It does not, however, produce the heat for our 1600 square foot loft with high ceilings, old single pane windows, etc.

Tuesday, I waited until the afternoon and no reply. I went back to the office and a different person was at the front. I asked why nothing had been done, starting with the space heater. He was apologetic, took down some notes, and said he would get back to me by the end of that day. I never heard back from anyone Tuesday.

Wednesday I sent an email that basically explained:

We have lived here for almost a year now. We have had other maintenance issues. While there have often been delays, they have always been resolved. Our heat being out during one of the coldest periods this year is a major to all others we have had since moving into our unit. We are one of the largest units, with all front exposure windows to the street with original windows (single pane) to the street) and side single pane large windows and an exceptionally large sky light.

After no action Monday, I returned Tuesday afternoon, and was promised action would be taken, at least on the space heater. Nothing happened.

Finally on Wednesday I was more forceful saying " I have heard nothing from anyone. This is unacceptable." I went on to say "I will expect some action today or proceed accordingly." "I do not like to be forceful but I seem to be disregarded with efforts of being pleasant."

The heat was finally fixed Thursday evening. But, this is far from the end of the story.
